English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Armbrae’s summer EAL program is ideal for students who are keen to improve their communication skills in the English language, and for English language learners who will be attending Armbrae in the fall.

Each session is two weeks in duration. Students may attend both sessions, or more advanced English language learners may attend the second session only. Placement will be determined by the school. In the program, students participate in an engaging classroom lesson focusing on the academic aspects of the English language, including reading and writing. On Wednesdays, English language learning continues through the afternoon, with experiential activities and field trips outside the classroom. These activities provide students an opportunity to put the skills learned into practice as they communicate with peers and teachers.

Our program focuses on the acquisition of language through reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students are required to speak only in English and apply their English language skills in real life situations. Throughout the program, students will benefit from learning about Canadian and Nova Scotian culture and local history.
